Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on the Recruitment Process

In recent years, there has been a rapid development of AI, or artificial intelligence. It is currently available in many different versions and is capable of doing many things - from conducting simple conversations to searching for information on the internet, to preparing authentic and professional texts, and even generating ultra-realistic images and videos.

Many people are concerned that the rapid development of artificial intelligence will have a negative impact on various areas of work - whether through a reduction in the number of positions, in professions where AI can partially replace humans, or through increased requirements in the recruitment process itself.

However, AI is helpful in many aspects of life, including job searching - and this is beneficial for both employers and employees. They will find many applications that will definitely make the whole process faster and more enjoyable.

Together with CVwizard, we have explored this topic and gathered the most interesting and useful ways to use artificial intelligence during recruitment. Here are our conclusions!

For Employers: Is AI a Way to Select Candidates Faster?

In the world of IT, as well as in many other professions, employers often prioritize experience and successes in previous roles – such as completing large projects or documented achievements. So how can employers use AI to assist in finding a new employee? There are several methods.

One way is to gather all received CVs and send them to an AI program – even ChatGPT version 4.0 will suffice. Then, ask it to filter all documents containing the required skills or qualifications. The program will then send back all candidates who meet our criteria, significantly saving us time. Of course, every employer must remember to remove sensitive data from the documents before sending them to the AI program.

Another way to make good use of artificial intelligence is to prepare a new job offer on a job portal even before starting the recruitment process. Just a few prompts (i.e., keywords and commands typed into the AI chat) are enough for such a program to create an attractive offer for us, which we can then post online. What will be needed? The employer will have to enter the most important information about the position – such as required experience, job duties, or expected salary. It's also necessary to provide the benefits offered to employees. Finally, it's worth including logistical information such as the workplace, remote work options, or hybrid work arrangements. All of this will allow artificial intelligence to create an engaging job offer.

When preparing such an offer, we can also guide the AI model to adopt the appropriate tone – for example, if we want to hire younger individuals, we can opt for a slightly more informal tone in our offer. On the other hand, when looking for employees for a more serious role – such as in customer service – it's better to use a formal tone. Both effects – as well as any tone "in between" – can be achieved simply by entering the appropriate command. For example, "the job offer is aimed at younger individuals starting their career – let its tone be slightly more relaxed, targeting such employees" – that's all it takes to achieve the desired effect!

For employers, we have one more piece of advice – due to the constantly changing job market, it's worth keeping up with the most popular trends, whether in IT or other professions. Here, too, artificial intelligence can help by quickly checking what skills competitive companies are seeking. Advanced AI models can analyze information on the web, so we can use them to analyze various job offers from different companies and create a convenient summary focusing on the aspects that interest us – whether it's the mentioned skills and requirements, offered salaries, or other benefits of a given position.

It's not always that easy

It's worth remembering that AI is a constantly evolving technology - practically every day, various models receive updates, improvements, and changes, but they are still far from perfect. For example, artificial intelligence has problems with recognizing soft skills - while it can easily analyze and search for specific experiences, certificates, or technological achievements, recognizing concepts such as creativity, communication skills of a candidate, or good teamwork can be much more challenging even for advanced AI models.

In the recruitment process, we recommend using several different AI systems. Why? Some models, trained on specific groups or audiences, may exhibit biases against individuals who are not part of that group - for example, assuming that only men can be IT professionals, AI models may have difficulty analyzing CVs submitted by women. By choosing a larger number of models, we reduce the risk of such a situation occurring.

Additionally, using artificial intelligence comes with costs - although there are free models, they are not as powerful as the latest versions of the aforementioned ChatGPT, which can freely browse the web and has access to the latest information worldwide. If we want to fully utilize the potential of AI, we need to be prepared for expenses.

Nevertheless, in good hands, AI is a truly powerful tool that will facilitate and improve every recruitment process, which we strongly encourage every employer to do!

What does AI offer potential employees?

Now let's focus on the other side of the coin, i.e. employees. The development of AI has proven to be a salvation for many job seekers. The first thing a potential employer will always see is our CV. If it is of poor quality, disordered, sloppy - even strong experience or skills may not be strong enough to encourage people to like us. This is where artificial intelligence comes in handy.

Using AI to create a CV is a significant facilitation that will help us gather all the most important points of our career and education, and it will also suggest which skills to focus on when searching for a job in a specific position. Additionally, we can quickly tailor our CV, emphasizing experiences or skills sought by a particular employer. With the help of artificial intelligence, we can also quickly find opinions from former or current employees about an employer that interests us.

However, that's not all because artificial intelligence can also help with such obvious things as... typos. Many people do not check their CVs after writing them, which is a huge mistake - employers typically look for meticulous individuals who pay attention to their work. Language errors in a CV already indicate that such a person may be somewhat careless. Therefore, it's better to check the correctness of our document before sending it - it will definitely save us from silly mistakes!

If we are not sure whether a particular position is suitable for us, we can also analyze it using AI - just paste the job offer and our CV into the model and ask for a comparison. Artificial intelligence will inform us whether we meet the employer's expectations and requirements, and if not, it will also let us know what areas we should work on or what additional skills we should develop.

Disadvantages for employees

Just like employers, employees also need to be cautious about a few things when it comes to AI. First and foremost, the financial aspect arises once again - good AI models come at a cost, however, you don't necessarily need a subscription to a specific model just to create a CV. Websites like CVwizard can help prepare a quality CV with the assistance of AI for a small fee. However, if you want to take advantage of more advanced analysis that AI can offer, a free model may not be sufficient, and you may need to consider subscribing to several different programs.

It's also worth remembering that AI relies on information already available on the internet - this means that in a way, our CVs may lose their "uniqueness", which we can give them through unconventional layouts or graphic design. On one hand, this can be an advantage - clear CVs are the basis of practically every recruitment process. However, when looking for jobs in more creative professions, such as computer graphics, an unconventional CV can be a way to convey our skills or experience in a lively manner. By using artificial intelligence, we may not achieve such an effect.

Finally, we must also mention the human aspect - the more people use AI, the greater the competition in the job market becomes. Artificial intelligence can quickly find job offers that match our experiences and skills - which is naturally an advantage - but it can also do the same for every other person currently looking for a job. This significantly increases the number of employees interested in a single position, which in turn may reduce the chance of us getting the job.

CVwizard experts also talk about one more thing that everyone using AI should take to heart: "It's worth using artificial intelligence as a tool, an extension of our own work. However, let's always remember to add the human factor to our CV, which will not only help distinguish it in the crowd but also make it more authentic. A good way to get feedback on our CV is to talk to friends or family, or even seek help on social media platforms like LinkedIn - this way, we will definitely gain additional assistance."

AI in Recruitment - Salvation or Nightmare?

Taking into account everything we've discussed, one can come to one conclusion - AI is truly helpful both from the perspective of the employer and the job seeker. Faster candidate filtering, comparing competing offers, or the ability to create a really good CV in just a few moments are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the constantly evolving AI.

All the drawbacks we've managed to gather seem to be relatively minor in the overall calculation - although, of course, it's worth keeping them in mind, especially as an employer: it's worth starting the hiring process with artificial intelligence, but we should never lose the "human factor", which should have an equally large role in recruitment as AI.

And what about the employees? We'll repeat ourselves - a clear CV is the basis from which you can start applying for new positions. That's why we encourage you: don't be afraid of artificial intelligence, just take advantage of its benefits, because those who don't start doing it now may significantly fall behind in the future and close many career paths for themselves!
