About the Position Our client is looking for a dynamic Java Technical Lead to join their growing team. In this capacity, you will operate at a high level as a principal-tier individual contributor while simultaneously guiding and overseeing a cross-functional Agile Scrum group. Your mission will be to steer the creation of robust, high-capacity platform functionalities and integrations, fostering a workspace defined by engineering brilliance, shared goals, and steady growth. Although this position carries significant leadership weight, your primary focus will remain on the direct technical execution and successful delivery of software products.


Operational Parameters

  • Workload Balance: This role is structured as 40% hands-on development, 30% architectural design, and 30% team leadership and management.
  • Working Hours: Core operations and collaboration sessions are scheduled according to the Ireland timezone.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Spearhead the conceptualization, development, and deployment of intricate platform systems and service integrations utilizing JavaKubernetes, and contemporary cloud-based frameworks.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for your unit, determining architectural paths and supervising implementation across various APIs, services, and data repositories.
  • Propel the implementation of industry standards in API architecture, system observability, performance tuning, and defensive programming.
  • Partner with high-level architects and staff engineers to ensure your team's outputs synchronize with the overarching platform vision and technical objectives.

Agile Team Management

  • Function as the Scrum Team Lead, coordinating all Agile rituals (daily syncs, sprint planning, and reviews) to maintain efficient production cadences.
  • Lead a diverse group of developers and SDETs, offering regular mentorship, constructive critiques, and professional pathing support.
  • Cultivate a high-performance, welcoming environment centered on individual accountability, ownership, and proactive skill-building.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Liaise closely with Product Managers, Owners, QA, and DevOps specialists to define and launch high-impact system features.
  • Sync with broader business divisions (such as customer success and professional services) to guarantee platform stability and user fulfillment.

Quality & Operational Excellence

  • Advocate for advanced test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and deep observability to maintain the integrity of software launches.
  • Work in tandem with QA and SDET partners to establish and uphold rigorous quality benchmarks, including security and performance assessments.
  • Track and optimize key performance indicators, such as development velocity, error ratios, and the frequency of production deployments.

Strategic Contribution

  • Help drive technical recruitment, the onboarding of new hires, and the general scaling of the engineering department.
  • Pinpoint and implement workflow refinements and tool upgrades to boost developer satisfaction and overall team productivity.
  • Monitor the latest industry shifts and emerging tech trends, assessing how they might benefit the long-term platform evolution.

Essential Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

  • 8+ years of professional background in software development, with a minimum of 2+ years in a technical leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • A demonstrated history of architecting and shipping high-scale, distributed environments using Java and cloud-native tools.
  • Comprehensive grasp of API management strategies and complex integration patterns.
  • Direct professional experience with Valkey (or Redis)MongoDB, and PostgreSQL, including data modeling and speed optimization.
  • Deep familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and various microservices launch strategies.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Proven skill in directing Agile Scrum squads, facilitating team ceremonies, and managing iterative release cycles.
  • Strong capabilities in people management, covering professional mentoring, performance evaluations, and career growth.
  • Superior communication and stakeholder relationship skills, with the capacity to align diverse teams toward unified objectives.
  • Background in technical talent acquisition, scaling engineering teams, and building inclusive workplace cultures.

Quality & Strategic Thinking

  • Knowledge of diverse test automation frameworks, including unit, system integration, and stress testing.
