POSITION TITLE: Storekeeper (demining team)
COUNTRY: Ukraine
SUPPORDING TO: Technical Manager
LOCATION: Kharkiv
NGO Handicap International has a clear institutional policy regarding "Protection of Children", "Fighting Fraud, Bribery and Corruption", "Disability, Gender and Age" and "Protection of Beneficiaries from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment". It is therefore binding on all employees and includes an obligation to respect, uphold and promote this policy, as well as sign the HI Code of Conduct.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Handicap International (HI) is actively involved in supporting populations affected by armed conflict through comprehensive mine action initiatives, including non-technical survey, victim assistance and informing the population about the risks associated with explosive objects. Based on the experience gained over three years, HI aims to expand its own activities by integrating technical survey and manual demining activities into it, which shows a strong involvement in the process of unblocking territories — from hazard identification to safe disposal of explosive remnants of war.
In line with our goal of expanding opportunities and strengthening the capacities of local organizations, HI entered into a partnership agreement with the Association of Sappers of Ukraine (ASU), a local non-governmental organization, to conduct classes on informing the population about the risks associated with explosive objects and carrying out demining activities. This partnership focuses on expanding the partner's capacity to implement sustainable demining and risk reduction efforts based on community initiatives. In addition, intersectoral HI teams will conduct thorough operations to survey and clear dangerous areas, while the ASU will actively participate in the marking and identification of suspected areas.
To ensure a comprehensive humanitarian response, demining activities will be complemented by victim assistance activities such as physical rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and advocacy and advocacy that will address the needs of affected people. from mine pollution. The longer an armed conflict continues, the greater the risks associated with explosive remnants of war and unexploded ordnance, and therefore demining and risk education activities become of key importance.
The HI program in the humanitarian mine action sector is a key component of broader efforts to restore safe access to land and help protect vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing conflict. The deployment of professional sappers is essential to achieving these goals, as it provides an opportunity to safely unlock areas, support resilience and rebuild communities.
