COUNSELOR EDUCATOR
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that provides assistance in more than 60 countries of the world to the population in a difficult situation, victims of natural disasters, man-made disasters and armed conflicts, regardless of their race, religion or political beliefs.< /p>
MSF is a civil society initiative that brings together people who want to help to other people in crisis situations. Thus, the ISF is an association by its own choice.
Anyone who works with MSF, does so out of conviction and is willing to support the organization's values and principles.
Primary objective:
Conduct counseling and/or educational sessions for beneficiaries following various MSF protocols and procedures, which address medical and mental health issues to improve their psychosocial well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Define psychosocial , socioeconomic and administrative needs of the beneficiaries.
- Actively promote the availability of counseling services and conduct individual or group consultations, basic psychoeducational sessions with the beneficiaries, their families (if necessary) in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties, within the framework of the project .
- Refer beneficiaries to other professionals or other institutions for further assistance when necessary to ensure the best available support.
- Participate in the creation of any materials necessary for consulting, and take care of their preservation.
- Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other consultants, while maintaining confidentiality
- Inform the immediate supervisor about any problems that arise in the process of daily activities.
- Participate actively in trainings, supervisions/interviews and, as necessary, assist the Psychologist Team Activity Planning Manager in conducting educational activities for MSF staff or external partners with mental health/psychosocial issues.
- Discuss difficulties and problems arising during consultations with the supervisor.
Features of the MSF unit: strong>
In addition to the above duties, it is necessary to perform the followingdeliverables:
- Assess the psychosocial impact of war and conflict on beneficiaries, particularly war veterans, stroke survivors and older people, identifying both emotional and social needs in high stress settings.
- Provide trauma-focused counseling services tailored to the needs of beneficiaries affected by war-related trauma, neurological conditions and chronic illnesses, offering support in individual or group formats.
- Coordinate with local staff to integrate psychosocial support into the existing health care system, ensuring that interventions are culturally sensitive and adapted to limited hospital resources
- Ensure that onward referrals of beneficiaries meet their needs, using limited local resources or MSF's extended network if additional specialized support is needed.
- Carefully document the results of clinical activities while maintaining confidentiality, and capture trends and challenges faced by beneficiaries, facilitating continuous assessment of psychological care needs in the hospital.
- Actively participate in the training and capacity building of local staff, sharing knowledge and practical experience in providing trauma care, psychological first aid and long-term mental health support to the population affected by as a result of the conflict.
- Monitor the progress of beneficiaries in conditions of limited resources, adjusting counseling techniques according to the specifics of the hospital infrastructure and the availability of medical resources.
- Adapt counseling services for the elderly, offering interventions that take into account the individual characteristics, age-related mental health problems, mobility limitations and cognitive impairments characteristic of stroke survivors and older persons affected by war.
- Participate in MDC (multidisciplinary team) meetings ) together with other team members, sharing feedback and news.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Diploma or major in counseling, social work, psychology, or other relevant field
Experience:
- Mandatory work experience of at least 1 year.
- Experience in an NGO is desirable.
Knowledge of languages: fluent in Ukrainian; knowledge of the English language is desirable.
