International rescue committee
BACKGROUNDS
The months of escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine ended with a targeted invasion of the country and the beginning of military attacks in many cities of Ukraine with the aim of destabilizing the situation in the country and provoking a change of power. Fleeing the danger, Ukrainians are heading west, where Poland has set up 8 refugee reception points along its border with Ukraine, which are estimated to be able to host around 1 million arrivals.
From February 7 to 23, 2022, the IRC team conducted a fact-finding mission in Poland and Ukraine to better understand the context, humanitarian situation and state of civil society, as well as anticipated gaps in service delivery in the event of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and subsequent displacement to neighboring Poland. As of February 24, the IRC has focused on emergency response and has identified partner organizations in Poland and Ukraine to provide immediate assistance that can be used where it is most needed. Simultaneously, IRC and partners will launch a rapid needs assessment to better understand humanitarian needs in Poland and Ukraine, and how IRC can complement partners' response services, both in scope and scale. As the situation evolved, social protection was integrated into Economic Recovery and Development ("ERD") programs and priorities to assist conflict-affected individuals with referrals and registration in government systems and throughout the process.
This position will be based in one of the field offices (Dnipro, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa) with short trips to the interested regions and areas of activity within the framework of current activities, subject to security clearance, with the possibility of an overnight stay in a hotel or guest house.
