This position will report to the Social and Legal Protection Manager.
General purpose of the role:
Under the direct supervision of the Social and Legal Protection Manager of social and legal protection will be responsible for planning, implementation and quality assurance of protection measures on the territory of Donetsk region. This includes components of case management, protection monitoring, victim assistance and community-based protection.
The Social Protection Project Specialist will work with vulnerable individuals and communities with the aim of reducing protection risks, strengthening public protection mechanisms and ensuring access to relevant services. The position also involves participating in data collection and analysis, conducting information activities, making referrals and interacting with communities in accordance with DRC protection standards and principles. will be:
Under the leadership of the Social and Legal Protection Manager, the Social and Legal Protection Project Specialist will:
- Conduct information and outreach work and identify people with an increased risk of social and legal protection through work trips, communication with communities and coordination with other stakeholders.
- Provide vulnerable people with case management services, including detailed assessment, development of an individual action plan, referral to internal and external services and regular follow-up.
- Provide individualized social and legal assistance (both monetary and non-monetary) to mitigate specific risks faced by clients.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of all case management processes, including consent forms, referral forms, case notes, in accordance with DRB data protection protocols.
- Provide targeted individual assistance (i.e. targeted cash payments) to people directly or indirectly affected by accidents related to mines or explosive remnants of war, contributing to the improvement of their socio-economic situation.
- Participate in the development and implementation of relevanttarget groups (e.g. children, educators, authorities and others) training on age, gender and disability inclusion, as well as other capacity building activities on victim assistance.
- Conduct protection monitoring activities such as key informant interviews, focus group discussions and household surveys to assess directions and risks of social and legal protection
- Participate in the development and use of monitoring tools in the field of protection and participate in the analysis of collected data and reporting on them.
- Identify gaps in service provision and participate in regular mapping and updating of referral pathways.
- Plan and implement information and education sessions and information companies on key topics of social and legal protection, rights and available services.
- Assist in the establishment and strengthening of social and legal protection structures at the community level through participatory assessment, training and community action plan development.
- Conduct capacity building sessions for active community members and community structures involved in key areas of social and legal protection
- Maintain regular communication with community leaders, civil society actors and local authorities with the aim of ensuring community self-governance and sustainability of social and legal protection efforts.
- Supporting the work of Protection Assistants (if available), providing technical recommendations.
- Coordinating activities with other departments of the DRB to ensure holistic program activities and effective internal redirects.
- Participation in reporting, planning and preparation of project applications.
- Adherence to high standards of confidentiality, ethics and prevention of exploitation and violence.
About you:
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have at least 2 years of professional experience in humanitarian response, social sciences, human rights or community development, as well as a deep understanding of protection issues, including child protection and gender-based violence. In addition, we also expect the following from you:
Required:
- Higher education (social sciences, international relations, humanitarian studies) or equivalent professional experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to negotiate and constructive discussions.
- Ability to work independently, effectively plan time and set priorities.
- Adherence to professional ethics and confidentiality principles.
- Professional command of the Ukrainian language.
Desirable:
- B1 level of spoken and written English.
- Ability to work with people in difficult situations and discuss sensitive topics.
