Our activity in Ukraine began in 2014. Since then, we have greatly expanded our geographic presence, providing support to children and families affected by war. We work in areas such as education, child protection, food security and social support, as well as advocacy activities aimed at ensuring lasting change in children's lives.  and act as decision makers. 

The incumbent collaborates with all sectors and functions of the organization to mainstream gender approaches and address the risks of gender-based violence (GBV) at all stages of the program cycle.

Essential responsibilities: 

Implementation of SIDA CSO

  • Support SIDA CSO programs in integrating gender equality and social inclusion at the stages of development, implementation, completion and reporting for all activities related to SIDA CSO.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative program approaches to ensure mutual learning among partners under the leadership of partner CSOs on issues of gender equality and social inclusion, as well as sustainability of cooperation at the CSO level.

  • To facilitate the exchange and dissemination of lessons learned in the implementation process among partner CSOs in order to promote best practices and take them into account in future programs.

  • Adapt and conduct capacity-building activities with gender-sensitive programming as needed.

Leadership, technical consulting and quality assurance

  • According to the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2025-2027, contribute to the formation of the strategic vision and directions of SCI programs and portfolio in Ukraine through leadership in the systemic integration of gender equality in strategic, technical and operational processes.

  • Provide technical leadership in the implementation of the Gender Equality Action Plan for country representation based on Save the Children tools and approaches in the field of gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence(GBV).

  • Build the capacity of Save the Children staff and partners in key technical approaches related to gender equality and GBV by developing and delivering high-quality trainings, workshops, webinars, etc.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

  • Manage or support the use gender-sensitive MEAL approaches and tools, such as gender analysis, security audits, rapid needs assessments, situational analysis and others.

  • Contribute to the development, dissemination, monitoring and evaluation of innovative tools and resources to ensure the quality of programs aimed at promoting gender equality.

External representation

  • Represent Save the Children in relevant gender and GBV networks, including the GBV Area of Responsibility, to identify gaps and opportunities and to strengthen Save the Children's position in the humanitarian coordination system.

  • In line with the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and leadership, engage in strategic positioning with donors, partners and government structures in the country, ensuring Save the Children is the partner of choice for gender programming equality.

To be successful, you need to have:  

Education

  • Degree in Gender Studies or related major with a focus on gender equality and inclusion in international development, social work, public health, sociology, anthropology or related field, or equivalent experience.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience working with gender issues and providing technical leadership in the design and implementation of humanitarian and/or development programs aimed at promoting gender equality, including experience in humanitarian response.

  • In-depth understanding of gender equality principles and practices and GBV, humanitarian standards; national and global priorities of gender policy; and key gender inequalities affecting children in Ukraine.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in gender-responsive and transformative project design, resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, including creating pathways for sustainable impact at scale.

  • Significant experience in training, capacity building and mentoring on gender equality issues, ability to make complex concepts accessible and intelligible.

  • Experience in developing strategies and planning to promote gender equality and social justice.

  • High level of written and spoken English, Ukrainian and Russian, including the ability to formulate clear and argumentativenor reports.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills.

  • Willingness and ability to be highly flexible and adaptable in a challenging and sometimes dangerous work environment.

  • Experience in a specialist role with GBV and/or programming GBV.
