Database Administrator (PostgreSQL) / SQL Developer (Kyiv office) in King Grup

We are developing a highly loaded Web platform in the Social/Online Casino niche that is constantly scaling, evolving and transforming. This is a project where 24/7 availability is not just words, but a critical business requirement.

We are looking for a Product-Minded Engineer, not just a performer. A person who understands: behind every SQL query is the gaming experience of thousands of users, and behind every configured configuration parameter there is the stability of a large business. We are looking for afuture colleague in the Kyiv team (in the OFFICE).

Your technological platform:

• Infrastructure: We work on TOP server hardware with high-speed NVMe drives, where the problem is often not in resources, but in the limitations of PostgreSQL and the operating system.

• Databases: PostgreSQL 12/14 (we are preparing a jump to v17).

• Scale: Tens of terabyte databases operating under constant load.

• Analytics: Google BigQuery (and future implementation of high-performance Real-time OLAP layer for instant processing of large data sets).

• Monitoring stack: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Zabbix.

Your key challenges and projects:

1. Evolution to PostgreSQL 17: Seamless version updates on all projects with minimal Downtime. Your goal is to squeeze the most out of the new features of the version without buying new hardware.

2. Battle for milliseconds: Optimizing "heavy" requests in conditions of constant traffic growth. When there is enough iron, but the requests last 2-3 seconds, you enter the game. Deep analysis of query plans and tuning of OS/DB parameters.

3. Data Pipeline Optimization: Improving synchronization with BigQuery for accurate business analytics.

4. Architecture of the future: Building a Real-time analytical layer (OLAP) from scratch — from idea to implementation in the infrastructure. We're looking for an architectural solution that can scale multiple times. Every millisecond you win during optimization is directly converted into Business Value.

   • For business: This is stability and profit.

   • For you: Complete carte blanche to implement ideas. We are looking for someone who will tell us how to do better, not just wait for a ticket.

   We expect you to:

   • Deep PostgreSQL Knowledge: 2+ years of administration or development experience, understanding of the guts(component architecture).

   • High Load Experience: You know how 1TB+ databases behave 24/7 and how to maintain them.

   • High Availability: Practical experience with replication, Backup/Restore

   • Performance Tuning: You know how to find a "bottleneck" in the query plan and how to "cure"

   • Infrastructure Skills: Confident work with UNIX, Bash, regular expressions and monitoring systems.
     
     Will be a significant plus:

     • Knowledge of Python for automation

     • Understanding the principles of building analytical repositories

     • Experience with column databases (Column-oriented DB) and construction of ETL/ELT processes.
