Purpose: working as an essential member of a diverse team committed to serving the world's most vulnerable populations in a practical and compassionate way, the PSS Assistant supports and assists in the implementation of assigned projects in the field of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). Under the direct supervision of the PSS Specialist, the PSS Assistant will assist in the implementation and monitoring of psychosocial support activities. Working closely with the team and relevant stakeholders, the PSS Assistant assists in the preparation of work plans and training materials required for project activities.
Project overview: Medair is an international Christian a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance to the most vulnerable people in conflict, disease and disaster to ensure they live in dignity and hope. It began its activities in Ukraine at the beginning of March 2022 as a result of the escalation of Russia's military operations in Ukraine. Medair has implemented numerous activities in different sectors such as: housing, health care, cash and non-financial information, social support, WASH, mental health. Medair teams are located in the east, north and west of Ukraine to provide a multi-sectoral approach to assistance. We are looking for a qualified professional to join us in supporting vulnerable communities. Medair Protection and MHPSS programs are concentrated in rural, hard-to-reach areas, and covered areas include, but are not limited to: Kharkiv and Donetsk regions (including front-line areas).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Facilitate group sessions on MHPSS and safeguarding (awareness, peer support, psychoeducation sessions, etc.).
• Participate in meetings with government agencies and coordination meetings in close collaboration with PSS specialist.
• Work to identify gaps/needs and avoid duplication in MHPSS services.
• Assist in assessments and/or research to contribute to understanding of beneficiary MHPSS and protection needs.
• Build an understanding of referral pathways from MHPSS and protection in the region and organize referrals to support individual needs.
• Assist in the preparation of work plans and training materials required for PSS activities, ( educational) sessions and services.
• Help in the organization and conduct of trainings and educational activities.
• Actively contribute to the timely and high-quality preparation and submission of project documents, contracts and project reports regarding psychosocial activities .
PSS specialist.Communication and coordination:
• Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and resilient communication structures with the wider Medair team and other stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies and otherswe are non-governmental organizations) in order to ensure proper cooperation and partnership.
Logistics:
• Communication, as needed, with the PSS specialist, material and technical and finance staff to ensure that items and equipment are purchased, transported, stored, coordinated and accounted for properly.
Quality Management
• Promote and use Medair operational procedures, ensuring that all standardized formats are used and guidelines are followed.
• Control that PSS activities are approved by the project manager and MHPSS Global Advisor and are implemented in accordance with donor proposals and requirements, as well as in accordance with Medair standards, donor, country and international standards (ie Sphere, CHS and IASC recommendations).
POSITION SPECIFICATION
Qualification / Experience< /u>
Professional qualifications - social worker, teacher, instructor, mental health professional, nurse, facilitator, etc. PFA and/or mhGAP-HIG training, knowledge of mental health training preferred.
Experience - 1 year group or training facilitation experience / Recent graduate. Previous work with IDPs, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities or other vulnerable groups. Preferably - experience of working in projects or activities in the field of protection / mental health / psychosocial.
Knowledge of languages - fluent Ukrainian. Preferably - good English.
IT - fluency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Competencies
Motivation - passion for serving vulnerable people, self-motivation. Desired - desire to learn and develop in MHPSS / defense sector / humanitarian work.
Team building - team player with good communication skills, willingness to support others and share the load, ability to mobilize the community and capacity building.
Adaptability - the ability to work under pressure and manage the level of personal stress, creativity, openness, flexibility, self-learning ability. It is desirable to grow professionally and personally.
Technical expertise - good administrative skills, ability to solve problems. Experience in curriculum development and writing, knowledge of humanitarian principles, Sphere and CHS, as well as IASC guidelines and policy on MHPSS in emergencies preferred.
Management and Leadership - ability to articulate priorities and control several tasks, the ability to set clear goals, a willingness to consultative teamwork. Preferably - a good understanding of humanitarian work.
Fields of knowledge - training/group facilitation, social work, psychosocial support, mental health, protection, (public) health.< /p>
Working conditions: this is a "field" position with frequent travel, including potentially hazardous project locations. The candidate must be willing to often subto protect and commit to safety protocols.
