The "Man in Trouble" organization has been operating in Ukraine since the beginning of August 2014, and since then, humanitarian programs have been expanding rapidly. At this time, "Lyudyna v bidi" is one of the main humanitarian organizations in Ukraine that provides neutral and independent humanitarian assistance to people affected by the conflict.

General information about the employee role:

This position is considered as of the general WASH profile, as well as engineers with experience in the field of alternative / renewable energy (in particular, solar and wind solutions), who worked with infrastructure and construction objects of communal and social purpose. 400; font-style: bold; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400 400">The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project Engineer provides technical support and project activities, particularly in emergency situations related to infrastructure and construction works within the systemscentralized heat supply (at the communal and institutional levels), water supply, population access to drinking and technical water in populated areas, access to hygiene and sanitation facilities, sewage network and treatment facilities, renewable and reserve energy sources for water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WSG) facilities and heating in the above-mentioned regions. style="font-weight: normal; font-style: normal">Works closely with the project estimator, regional administrator, program specialists. Coordinates work with the communications, logistics and finance department. Reports to both the Emergency Assistance Program Manager and the HSE Advisor.  

External relations:

Establishes and develops relations with local self-government bodies, communal services of centralized heat supply, water supply and drainage, laboratories, other organizations that carry out humanitarian activities in the territories of the region. In addition, he participates in cluster meetings upon request. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessment and technical assessment, including field visits to water/sewer plants and boiler plants (for district heating), observations and interviews with utilities by service providers

  • Provide technical support and supervise project implementation stages (implementation start, handover) covering the following aspects in which the candidate's experience is important:

  • District heating systems (boiler plants and networks). 

  • Water supply systems (water pumping stations - pumping and purification/filtration, as well as networks). 

  • Sewage systems (treatment and pumping stations, as well as networks). 

  • Water and wastewater quality control and monitoring. 

  • Renewable and reserve energy sources for water supply, drainage and sanitation facilities; 

  • Ensure timely planning in accordance with existing procedures and work plan;   

  • Regularly provide the necessary information and report on the progress of implementation and execution of workit; 

  •  

  • If necessary, provide support during the examination of technical documentation; 

  •  

     

  • Ensure preparation and processing of project documentation: reports, tables and other accompanying documentation; 

  • Quality control and verification of design documentation, construction and assembly works and design and estimate documentation; 

  • Monitor the proper receipt and use of the transferred equipment and services; 

  • Guarantee compliance with minimum international standards in humanitarian activities;  

  • Ensure detection and redirection of additional needs; 

  • Establish professional relations with other departments of the organization and coordinate activities with other projects; 

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.

    Work experience:

    • At least 1 year of experience in a similar position in the humanitarian sector for the area of ​​WASH infrastructure (required). Experience in WASH soft components will not be considered.
    • Experience in infrastructure district heating systems and renewable energy for WASH systems will be an advantage. Experience in infrastructure works for water supply and water quality is a must.
    • Practical experience in the WASH sector. Understanding the context and centralized and decentralized water systems. Other qualifications or specific experience in the field of rehabilitation of water supply and sewage facilities, waste management. Building and renovating toilets, improving access to basic WASH facilities.
    • At least a basic understanding of humanitarian aid or development programming in emergencies would be an advantage.

    English:

    • Basic level (Higher levels of proficiency will be an advantage)

    Professional / Technical Competencies:

    • Experience in a similar field

    • Technical experience and knowledge in working with WASH infrastructure (district heating, water quality and supply, sanitation)
    • Experience in related activities (technical assessment, preparation of BOQs, design or review of drawings, preparation of design documents, supervision of procurement, quality and planning of works with contractors, coordination and facilitation)
    • Understanding of humanitarian principles and practices
    • Good communication and diplomatic skills
