The organization "Man in trouble" has been operating in Ukraine since the beginning of August 2014 and Since then, humanitarian programs have been expanding rapidly. Currently, "Lyudyna v bidi" is one of the main humanitarian organizations in Ukraine that provides neutral and independent humanitarian assistance to people affected by the conflict.

General information about the team / department and its role in the organization:

Under the overall direction of the Program Manager with providing emergency assistance, the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene Project Engineer  provides technical support and implementation of project activities, including emergency response and early recovery. Special attention is paid to projects using alternative sources of energy (solar and wind) for infrastructure and building facilities of the communal economy, such as district heating, as well as for public institutions, such as schools, social and medical centers, in the specified region.

Specific duties and responsibilities: 

  • Conducting needs assessment and technical analysis, including visits to water and sewage plants, boiler houses (for centralized heating) and public institutions (schools, medical and social centers), as well as interaction with utility service providers and personnel.
  • Providing technical support and supervision at all stages of the project (beginning of implementation, handover), in particular:
      < li>Renewable and backup energy for facilities.
    • Integration of solar and wind energy as part of autonomous hybrid systems.
    • Analysis of energy demand and consumption, development/review of projects of alternative energy systems on based on the received data.
    • Comparison of optimal solutions with the needs of objects.
  • Consultations and cooperation with contractors and suppliers for the design and implementation of alternative energy systems.
  • materials, equipment and works, coordination of specifications with the regional director.
  • Ensuring compliance of the project with legal norms and standards, as well as guaranteeing the use of appropriate standards in all cases.
  • Conducting site visits to check the quality of the work performed and provide consultations as needed.
  • Preparation and management ofect documentation, reports, tables and other accompanying documentation.
  • Quality control of design and estimate documentation, as well as construction and installation works.
  • Ensuring proper receipt and use of transferred equipment and services.< /li>
  • Observance of minimum international standards in the field of humanitarian activities.
  • Identification of additional needs and subsequent referral of relevant requests for their resolution.

Necessary experience and qualification : 

  • Higher education: specialist diploma in the specialty "Alternative energy engineer" (preferred) or "Energy/ electrical engineering" or an equivalent engineering specialty with knowledge in the field of renewable energy systems (design and implementation).
  • Experience: at least 1 year in a similar position in the design and implementation of renewable energy systems (required). 

    Experience in the infrastructure of district heating systems and the WASH sector will be an advantage. 

    Practical experience in the WASH/energy sector.

  • Understanding the context and operation of centralized and decentralized water supply systems. Other qualifications or experience in the field of restoration of water supply and drainage facilities, waste management. Construction and repair of toilets, improving access to basic WASH facilities. 

    Basic understanding of humanitarian aid or development programs in an emergency setting would be an advantage.

  • Ability to read and write estimates;
  • Good computer skills computer (Word, Excel, etc.). Experience working with databases;
  • Organization of the work process;
  • Attention and accuracy;
  • Flexibility, result-oriented;
  • Independence and ability to work under stressful conditions;
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
