Context

One of the primary objectives of the project is to support national efforts in revising and updating the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to align with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This will enable the effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at the national level, contributing to long-term biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. The Umbrella Programme to Support NBSAP Update and the 7th National Reports is designed to assist countries in preparing and submitting their 7th National Report on Biodiversity, ensuring compliance with international biodiversity commitments. The project recognizes the urgent need to integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations into national biodiversity planning processes. Given the complexity of these tasks, external technical and financial support is crucial for building institutional capacity and fostering cross-sectoral cooperation. This project will facilitate stakeholder engagement, participatory decision-making, and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that all stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, indigenous communities, and the private sector, are actively involved . Specific objectives of the project include:- Providing technical and advisory support for the revision and implementation of the NBSAPs.- Enhancing stakeholder engagement through participatory consultations and workshops.- Supporting gender-responsive biodiversity planning and policy coherence.- Developing and implementing communication strategies to raise public awareness about biodiversity conservation.- Strengthening monitoring and reporting systems to track progress toward biodiversity targets. The UNDP Energy and Environment Portfolio is seeking a National UN Volunteer Specialist to support the implementation of this initiative, ensuring inclusive participation, knowledge sharing, and effective outreach strategies for biodiversity conservation in Ukraine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Public Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage the general public and stakeholders in discussions and actions related to promoting biodiversity conservation on the national and community levels.
  • Community Outreach: Collaborate with local communities, NGOs, and other organizations to foster cooperation in addressing biodiversity conservation and promoting sustainability.
  • Capacity Building: Organize educational programs, trainings, workshops and accelerators
  • Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to public engagement efforts, utilizing key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of outreach activities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the project team and relevant partners to ensure a coordinated and coherent approach to outreach activities.

This position comes with the following benefits and entitlements for UN Volunteers (National UN Volunteer Specialist):

  • Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 1587 (equivalent in UAH) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and normal cost of living expenses. This includes Well-Being Differentials for the period while the ICSC applies hardship classification to duty stations in Ukraine as “E”.
  • Medical and life insurance: Cigna Private Insurance
  • Annual leave: 30 days
  • Certified sick leave: 30 days annually
  • Uncertified sick leave: 7 days annually
  • Learning leave: 10 days annually
