Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization that promotes and supports long-term solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people around the world. 

DRB is currently looking for a Senior Security Specialist, who will join the team in Kyiv, but with frequent and long business trips.

General purpose of the role:

Geographic coverage

Your work will be focused on local DRB offices and ensuring adherence to DRB procedures and guidelines with additional operational support at the country level. 

Your main responsibilities will be:

Development of potentialin the team:

  • Develop a capacity building plan for field staff in close collaboration with the Head of Security;
  • Provide proactive support in knowledge transfer to local staff;
  • Identify training and development opportunities and support local colleagues in taking advantage of these opportunities;
  • Develop and conduct any relevant security training;

Security risk management:

  • Provide support in the development and implementation of the security risk management process;
  • In collaboration with the Head of Security, help develop and review regional and country security management policies, protocols and procedures;
  • Develop security risk assessments (SRAs) in collaboration with local security professionals and support the implementation of mitigation measures;
  • Analyze, manage and report relevant information within the geographical area of ​​responsibility to the Head of Security, Regional Managers or any other relevant official as necessary to update relevant contextual data in a timely and proactive manner;
  • Create, update and maintain appropriate security documentation, data and records for areas of responsibility;
  • Review and approve travel requests in the field, work with program teams to develop security plans where necessary and then remotely monitor movements in the field in collaboration with operations. Subsequently, in cooperation with national colleagues, delegate this task;
  • Coordinate emergency response at the local level within the geographical area of ​​responsibility;
  • Monitor formal and informal information networks, as well as open sources of information in order to provide appropriate recommendations in accordance with the policy of the DRB;
  • Maintain and conduct security training for program and support staff;
  • Provide technical supervision of local security staff, including security guards and drivers;
  • Assist in providing emergency support to the Incident Management Team as needed;
  • Deputy as neededyou Head of Security;
  • Any other tasks required for this role.

Management:

  • While this position has no direct reports, the successful candidate will be expected to provide technical support to the security team as needed in coordination with the Head of the Security Department.

About you:

To be successful at for this position, we expect you to haveat least 2-4 years of experience in a role related to security responsibility in an international NGO( program and operations staff departments that meet these criteria but may not have had a position with the word "security" or "security" in the title may also apply). 

In addition, we also expect candidates to:

  • Willingness to learn, good feeling humor and high emotional intelligence
  • The ability to work in a team and cooperate, but at the same time the ability to work independently, take initiative and make decisions
  • Interest in politics, security and critical understanding of the current situation in Ukraine; knowledge of regional and broader geopolitical events and how they affect the war in Ukraine
  • Understanding areas for personal development
  • Purposeful, committed and proactive with a desire for excellence
  • Stable personality, able to act professionally under stressful conditions
  • Proven experience in training and mentoring a variety of audiences, both large groups and one-on-one
  • Experience working in a multicultural work environment
  • < li style="font-weight: 400">Experience in information gathering, analysis and report writing; critical incident management
  • Experience of working in difficult or dangerous environments
  • Full professional command of the English language (ability to read and write English at a high level and work in a professional environment)

We offer:

  • Contract: 6 months from with the possibility of extension depending on the results of work and funding

  • Salaries and conditions according to the Conditions of Employment of the Danish Refugee Council's national and international staff.
