The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. About the job 

The ICRC Protection Department is seeking a highly capable Protection Field Officer to join our team in Odesa. The Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation of the Protection activities of the ICRC in the Odesa area of responsibility, especially within the file of Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP), by collecting information and analysing events and patterns causing humanitarian consequences that affect the civilian population, according to International Humanitarian Law (IHL). This includes the proposal of concrete follow up actions and supporting assessments by ICRC assistance Departments.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

•    Develop and maintain contact with the municipal/regional authorities, local/regional, National Society branches, the local population, suppliers, etc.
•    Provide context analysis and monitor the latest political, economic, and social developments affecting the civilian population, through various sources (including media, health authorities, security services,      civil society, Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), etc.) 
•  Contribute to the collection and analysis of events and patterns that affect the civilian population, in strict adherence to the ICRC principles of confidentiality and neutrality 
•  Foster a multidisciplinary response by the ICRC to address the various needs of the affected civilian population, at individual and community levels 
•  Organize and participate in field trips with the Protection-field team or other departments, which can last various days
•  Contribute to written reports of field trips and to Protection and context-related analyses
•  Being responsible for creating a conducive environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamics) among their own team members and with other teams

About you

To be successful as Protection Field Officer in the Protection Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• University degree or relevant professional experience
• Typically, 3- years of experience in the field of social, political or economic sciences or similar
• Humanitarian experience is an asset
• Fluent command of English, Ukrainian and Russian
• Computer proficiency
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
