 JOB DESCRIPTION:

The operator is responsible for the operation of mechanical means to remove vegetation; land preparation and/or mechanical cleaning, following all MAG standard operating procedures and mechanical safety standards.

• Assist the mechanical engineer in the repair and routine maintenance of mechanical equipment andof attachments.

• Responsible for all loading and unloading of mechanical equipment from the vehicle.

• Ensuring proper securing of mechanical equipment during transportation.

• Ensuring cleanliness and serviceability of equipment, any defects must be reported to Mechanical Support Manager, Technical Field Manager and Team Leader for appropriate action.

 Operational activity

Use of mechanical equipment with its devices in accordance with the instructions of the manager of management and technical issues; manager; team leader.

• Ensuring all activities performed with mechanical equipment conform to MAG standard operating procedures. Any deviations from these must be approved by the technical manager and recorded in the Task Plan.

• Daily progress report of the work performed by the mechanical equipment, technical field manager, team leader.

Duties of all MAG staff

As part of their duties, all MAG staff are required to:

• Maintain and implement standard policies MAG, including but not limited to the Personal Conduct Policy, Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, Dignity at Work, Financial Crime Policy, Gifts and Hospitality Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy.

• Understand and adhere to the standards set out in MAG's Safety Concept, act with due care and attention to protect the welfare of everyone who comes into contact with MAG's work, and report concerns if they will arise.

• Work within MAG's core values, promoting its spirit and mission.

• Work to achieve program goals and/or the department's business plan.

• Ensure all MAG policies and procedures are read and followed, and stay abreast of MAG activities.

• Apply knowledge from relevant training and development programs.

ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for a candidate with:

• Good physical fitness

• Knowledge of humanitarian demining, preferably at the BDC (Basic Demining Course) level

• Experience with mechanized demining equipment (will be an advantage)

• Good hand-eye coordination

Basic knowledge of the English language (will be an advantage)

• Interest in mastering mechanized demining and willingness to participate in trainings with mechanized demining equipment.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Operator is responsible for operating the mechanical asset to do vegetation removal; ground preparation and/or mechanical clearance. Adherence to all MAG SL Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Standards during mechanical activities. 

Responsibilities will include:

Pre/Post Deployment

  • New damage to the asset must be recorded on the VRRF
  • Ensure that the mechanical asset is clean.
  • The asset is then checked for serviceability against the Plant Maintenance Checklist.
  • After passing the inspection against the Plant Maintenance Checklist the asset is ready for deployment.
  • Report any faults on the machine to the Mechanical Support Manager, Technical Field Manager and Team Leader
  • Assist the Mechanic with repairs and regular maintenance of the mechanical asset and its attachments.
  • Responsible for all loading and unloading of the mechanical asset from the support vehicle.
  • Ensure that the mechanical asset is properly secured whilst being transported.
  • Ensure that the team support vehicle is clean and serviceable, any defects are to be reported to the Mechanical Support Manager and Technical Field Manager and Team Leader for action by fleet support element.

Operations

  • Use the mechanical asset with its attachments as directed by the TFM; FOM; Supervisor; Team Leader.
  • Ensure all activities conducted by the mechanical asset are in line with MAG SL SOP’s. Any deviation thereof needs to be approved by the TOM and recorded in the Task Implementation Plan.
  • Report daily progress of work completed by the mechanical asset to the Technical Field Manager, Team Leader.

 Responsibilities for All MAG Staff

  • Knowledge of demining, preferably completion of the Basic Demining Course (BDC)
  • Experience with mechanical demining assets is an advantage

  • Basic English-speaking skills are an advantage
