The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading social and legal protection organization , the main purpose of which is to protect, support and promote long-term solutions for the population affected by displacement.

DRB has existed in Ukraine since 2014 . In total, more than 800 employees work at DRB on the territory of Ukraine at the moment. In 2024, the DRB continues a significant expansion to implement emergency response in the sectors of social and legal protection, economic development, housing reconstruction and resettlement / non-food aid and humanitarian disarmament and peacebuilding (humanitarian demining), providing direct support to responsible individuals and public organizations (NGOs ), as well as creating partnerships with NGOs. DRB will continue to develop its long-term solutions package, adapting them to the changing context.

DRB is currently looking for Junior specialist of the economic development projectrural area to the city of Kharkiv.

About work

The Junior Rural Economic Development Project Specialist will provide support in the implementation of rural economic recovery measures, including but not limited to the provision of sectoral funds to farmers who farm for their needs, and small farms, as well as providing grants and developing the potential of agribusiness, will cooperate with communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and state institutions to identify vulnerable people who need support, will carry out service mapping and exchange information about available services. The junior specialist of the project on economic development of rural areas will work in the DRB office in Kharkiv and will participate in work trips in the Kharkiv region.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Implement economic recovery program activities the agricultural sector, including, but not limited to, the provision of sectoral funds to farmers who farm for their own needs and small farms, as well as the provision of grants and the development of the potential of agribusiness.
  • Contribute to improving the quality of the DRB approach, community-oriented, by effectively identifying and coordinating efforts with stakeholders, key informants and community members.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant public, private and non-governmental service providers, as well as other actors in the field implementation of projects.
  • Identify the needs for economic recovery within the defined territories and bring information to the Head of the economic recovery group. Collection of both quantitative and qualitative information and datato create and implement programs.
  • Organize and conduct outreach outreach activities, including dissemination of key messages, distribute informational and educational materials, and conduct information sessions tailored to meet identified needs.
  • Initiate and build strong relationships with communities through consistent interaction with community structures and adherence to the principles of dignity and a culturally sensitive approach.
  • Frequent coordination of their actions with the team of the Department of Economic Revitalization of Urban Areas to share information and experience and ensuring consistency of economic recovery programs.
  • Coordinate efforts with other DRB departments to facilitate effective referrals and information sharing.
  • Perform any other assignments from the Project Team Leader and/or Manager Department of Economic Recovery, which relate to the achievement of goals related to economic recovery.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a minimum of 1 year of experience. We also expect you to develop and support good relations with people in need, communities, relevant stakeholders and other humanitarian organizations, support the proper implementation and coordination of sectoral activities of the DRB, and ensure the quality and sustainability of economic recovery programs.

In addition, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Relevant university or vocational education (eg agriculture, political science, international development or economics) or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Interest in developing agribusiness and agricultural practices.
  • Ability to speak on sensitive topics and work with people in distress.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with vulnerable populations, staff and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize work and handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems.
  • Fluency in the Ukrainian language.

Preferred

  • Previous work experience in a similar position.
  • Understanding the fields of agriculture and agribusiness.
  • Understanding the process of forming the agricultural value added chain.
  • Awareness in the field of grants for agribusiness.
  • Good commandin English.

Wages and working conditions will be in accordance with the Conditions of Employment of the National Staff of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine.
