DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, DRC currently has over 800 staff in Ukraine and will continue to expand significantly in 2024 to implement a response to emergency situations in the areas of social and legal protection, livelihoods, housing/non-food restoration, humanitarian disarmament and peacebuilding (humanitarian demining), through direct intervention, support of civil society organizations (CSOs) and partnerships with CSOs.
DRC is currently looking for a Junior Psychosocial Support Project Specialist to work in Kharkiv.
This position will report to the Head of the Social and Legal Protection Project Team.
General purpose of the role:
Under the supervision of the Project Team Leader for Social and Legal Protection, the Junior Psychosocial Support Project Specialist will provide comprehensive psychosocial support services to targeted individuals and communities and will work closely with individuals, families and community groups to achieve their emotional, social and mental health needs, and will contribute to their recovery and resilience processes.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be: p>
- Conduct group sessions with PWDs to promote mutual support, resilience, mental wellbeing and the development of positive coping strategies
- Support the development and delivery of awareness raising sessions (both content and materials ) on psychosocial topics, including stress management, the availability of PES services and stress coping skills
- Collaborate with other service providers such as health professionals and social workers and make appropriate referrals and follow-up support as needed
- Promote community participation and involvement in psychosocial support activities, encouraging the active participation of individuals, families and community stakeholders
- Identify and support, including through awareness and capacity building, local resources, such as community organizations or volunteers, to increase the availability of psychosocial support at the community level
- Participate in capacity building sessions as needed
- Contribute to the development and continuous updating of the service mapping system, which details the services and assistance available in the DRC's areas of activity
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the Manager andof social and legal protection, which are related to the achievement of the goals of social and legal protection.
About you:
To be successful in this position, we expect you to have at least 1 one year of experience working with IDPs and conflict-affected populations.
In addition, we also expect:
- Familiarity with social work, case management, counseling, etc. preferred but not required
- Ability to speak on sensitive topics and work with people in distress
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with vulnerable individuals, staff and stakeholders from different walks of life.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask
- Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of privacy and ethics
- High level of Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems
- Knowledge of the English language is an advantage
- Knowledge of the Ukrainian language is necessary
Required Education: A degree in Psychology or Social Work is preferred
