GO "Southern Development Strategy" (SDS) looking for Research Manager

Our team develops and implements innovative solutions in the field of humanitarian response. We implement multidisciplinary projects in cooperation with UNICEF, Acted, the joint office of DanChurchAid & Norwegian Church Aid in Ukraine, CORE Response, Polish Humanitarian Action and other partners.

The main directions of our activity: (1) restoration of community life; (2) development of the territory and industries; (3) creating  new rapid opportunities for the affected population. Our projects are implemented in 11 regions of Ukraine. The organization has offices in Kyiv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv. We also launched a large-scale joint project with UNICEF, aimed at emergency support for the water, hygiene and winter needs of the residents of the Kherson region.

We are looking forHead of the research group, which will be stolen from the Research Facilitator(s) and Assistant(s). Duties can be performed in one of the offices in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Dnipro.

Main tasks of the expert contract:

1. Development of the research design of two water supply and agriculture projects; sanitation and hygiene in the context of a gender inclusive approach. 

2. Organization and conduct of a series of qualitative field studies in the front-line regions of Ukraine:

a) no less than 25 focus groups among the population of the Kherson region with the aim of raising awareness of women and girls about the risks of gender-based violence (GBV). The total number of participants in focus groups should be 200 people;

b) no less than 6 focus groups and 12 interviews in communities on the reconstruction of water supply for the restoration of agricultural activities in the war-affected communities of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions. 

3. Writing two structured analytical reports.  

4. Public presentation and promotion of research results.

The manager will work under the guidance of the Program Director and cooperate with other managers of the following areas: reconstruction, distribution, cash and voucher assistance, legal advice, inclusion, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and training, and others.< /span>

Terms of use: 

  1. Contract with an individual entrepreneur (FOP) of the 3rd group for a period of 8 months.

  2. Remuneration — 62,370 hryvnias per month before taxes.

  3. Project type of employment with a hybrid nature of work.

Main duties:

  1. Expert and general supervision of focus groups and interviews among the population of the Kherson region to raise awareness of women and girls about the risks of gender-based violence.

  2. Determining the general strategy, coordinating the work of the field research team for the joint and timely implementation of tasks within the project and commitments to partners.

  3. Preparation of research materials.

  4. View summaries and transcripts of focus group studies.

  5. Research progress communication.

  6. Analysis and interpretation of results.

  7. Writing two analytical reports with visualizations.

  8. Cooperation with heads of other areas and teams of the organization, as well as with relevant specialists of donors and partners. 

  9. Other additional requests are possible as needed.

Qualification requirements:

  1. Higher education in socio-behavioral, humanitarian, management or technical sciences.

  2. Experience of 2 years or more in a position with a similar function in the public sector, business, international development/humanitarian response, local self-government and state administration, business, think tanks and scientific and educational institutions.

  3. In-depth understanding of issues related to prevention and response to gender-based violence; focus group research methodologies; experience working with diverse communities.

  4. Experience in data collection programs (KoboToolbox, Qualtrics), qualitative data analysis (ATLAS.ti, NVivo, MAXQDA) is a significant advantage.

  5. Experience in planning, organizing and monitoring qualitative research.

  6. Ability to present the results of qualitative research and prepare reports.

  7. Strong analytical abilities and project thinking.

  8. Responsible attitude to deadlines, procedures, rules and quality of the result.

  9. Flexibility, mobility and readyness to travel.

  10. Advanced oral and written communication skills in Ukrainian and English (level not lower than B2) for preparing reports and correspondence.

  11. Expert interest in the topics of combating the consequences of war, citizen engagement, community recovery, economic development and solving socially important problems. Understanding of the local context will be an advantage.
