Head of Quality Assurance (QA) – Makeup & Cosmetic Production 

Reports to:  VP of Operations, General Manager 

 Full-Time   Monday - Friday  08:00 - 17:00 

Job Summary

The Head of Quality Assurance (QA) is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the highest standards of quality across all stages of product development, manufacturing, and distribution within the makeup and cosmetics production line. This role is crucial to maintaining compliance with industry regulations and brand standards, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating cross-functionally to guarantee that all products meet or exceed customer expectations for safety, performance, and aesthetic standards.

 Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Strategy and Leadership

   - Develop and implement the overall quality assurance strategy for the cosmetics production line, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements.

   - Provide leadership and guidance to QA team members, fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

2. Quality Control and Testing

   - Oversee product testing at various stages, including raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods, ensuring they meet strict cosmetic industry standards and internal quality benchmarks.

   - Collaborate with R&D, formulation, and production teams to establish and document product specifications, ensuring consistent and reliable product performance.

3. Regulatory Compliance

   - Ensure compliance with global regulations, including FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), ISO standards, and other relevant guidelines.

   - Stay informed of changes in regulatory requirements and ensure that the company adapts its practices accordingly.

4. Risk Management and Issue Resolution

   - Identify potential quality risks across production processes, proactively implementing measures to mitigate these risks.

   - Lead investigations for any quality issues, customer complaints, or recalls, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.

5. Team Development and Training

   - Recruit, train, and mentor QA staff, ensuring the team is equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to uphold high-quality standards.

   - Develop and conduct training programs on quality standards, compliance, and safety for both QA and cross-functional teams.

6.  Vendor and Supplier Quality Management

   - Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to evaluate and select suppliers, ensuring materials meet company and regulatory standards.

   - Conduct supplier audits and assessments, establishing quality standards and fostering strong relationships with external partners.

7. Continuous Improvement Initiatives

   - Analyze data from quality control processes to identify trends and areas for improvement, implementing initiatives that enhance overall quality and efficiency.

   - Drive continuous improvement programs and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste, improve product quality, and optimize production processes.

8. Reporting and Documentation 

   - Maintain accurate records of quality assessments, audits, testing, and compliance activities.

   - Prepare regular reports on quality metrics, presenting insights and recommendations to senior management.

9  Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

- 8+ years of experience in quality assurance or quality control in the makeup, cosmetics, or personal care industries, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

- In-depth knowledge of cosmetics regulations and standards (FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, ISO, GMP).

- Strong leadership skills with experience in team management, training, and mentorship.

- Exceptional problem-solving skills and experience with root cause analysis and CAPA.

- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

- Proficiency in data analysis tools and quality management software (e.g., SAP, LIMS).

10  Preferred Skills

- Certification in quality assurance or quality management (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt).

- Experience in new product launches and scale-up from lab to production.

- Strong project management skills with an ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively.
