HALO Trust is the world's largest humanitarian demining organization. HALO is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious organization headquartered in Great Britain. HALO's mission is to protect lives and restore livelihoods of people affected by conflict. We defuse landmines and explosive remnants of war so communities and countries can rebuild. HALO Ukraine has been operating since 2016, carrying out humanitarian mine action, including surveying, demining, disposal of explosive ordnance, and awareness of the risks associated with explosive ordnance. Currently, the program has about 1,200 people working in several regions, with centers in Brovary, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv.
As HALO seeks to expand its activities in Ukraine, we are looking for smart, hardworking and capable people to fill various positions , which fall under the general term "field officer". Unique among other mine action organizations, HALO selects new recruits based on their talent and potential (leadership, administrative skills, etc.) and then provides them with an intensive eight-month paid training course to provide them with the specific skills needed for carrying out operations to search for and defuse land mines and explosive objects. Upon completion of training, new field officers are qualified and ready to manage a wide range of mine action activities, lead technical projects and conduct activities such as explosive ordnance disposal.
- Fluency in spoken and written English (level B2).
- Willingness to participate in an eight-month training course that will take place mainly in Brovary, with regular business trips to the Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.
- Excellent physical shape, ability and willingness to stay outdoors for a long time, often in difficult conditions.
- Work experience in team management.
- Readiness for business trips around Ukraine.
- Sharp attention to detail and strong planning/logistics skills.
- Good communication skills.
- The presence of a driver's license (category B, mechanical gearbox).
- Ordered military registration document (marked by the RTCC and SP).
Desirable:
• Experience in mine countermeasures, disposal of explosive objects or response to crisis situations.
• Confident user of Microsoft Office package (Word , Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Knowledge of mechanical means (construction or agricultural machinery, specialized vehicles) and/or possession of skills in working with unmanned aerial vehicles.
Obov Connections :
Field officers who will be trained at HALO Ukraine will be assigned the position of senior officer or middle manager in Ukraine during their first assignment. Roles may include leading humanitarian demining operations or large-scale surveyingterritories; expansion of HALO's mechanical demining capabilities in Ukraine; occupying a management position in one of HALO's regional offices; management of program departments such as research and development department, quality assurance department and others.
Upon successful completion of the first assignment in Ukraine, HALO field officers in Ukraine will be eligible to apply for positions in other HALO programs. Those of them with strong potential will be mentored and recommended for leadership positions in HALO Ukraine - the largest humanitarian mine action organization in the country. The position involves the performance of middle management duties. All potential appointments will involve a high level of leadership and responsibility.
Candidate selection process:
The selection of candidates for the position will be carried out in 3 stages, at each of which you will have to take some time and effort to demonstrate your ambitions, skills and attitude.
• Stage 1: passing the English language test.
• Stage 2: interview.< /p>
• Stage 3: passing a practical test (must be physically present in the city of Brovary).
Selected candidates must undergo formal training at the Field Officer course, which will last 8 months. The training course will tentatively start at the end of July 2024.
The selection of candidates for filling positions depends on the successful completion of the final practical and written exam.
For internal candidates during the training period under candidates retain their salary for the position they hold.
Working Conditions:
While field officers in HALO are managers, they are expected to understand the work we do on the ground They must be willing and able to spend long periods of time in the field, wear personal protective equipment, and be exposed to extreme heat, rain, and snow. In addition, they are expected to conduct demining and explosive ordnance disposal operations in such environments if required.
