In spring 2024, Pace will open its first gallery space in Japan in Tokyo’s new Azabudai Hills development.The Curatorial Assistant will assist the Chief Curator in all administrative and research responsibilities in support of Pace’s exhibitions, public programs, publications, artist management, institutional relations, and day-to-day departmental activities, such as managing scheduling and travel. Based in New York, the Curatorial Assistant will be an intellectually curious individual with a solid grounding in modern and/or contemporary art, excellent writing abilities, a deep passion for working with and on behalf of artists, and an interest in exploring curatorial work in a gallery context.What You’ll Be DoingAssist the Chief Curator with all aspects of research, planning, and organization of Pace exhibitions and projectsAssists administratively by managing scheduling, travel arrangements, and expense tracking and reporting for the Chief Curator, and for various Curatorial initiatives.Provides administrative and research support for Artist Management at PaceCompiles preliminary research, outlines, and drafts for curatorial briefs that will be used for catalogue essays, press releases, wall texts, etc.Drafts and manages select correspondence on behalf of the Chief CuratorConducts bibliographic and checklist research, supports publication research, and helps in public program planning.Stays abreast of the external activities of Pace artists and keeps a running tracker of such activitiesAttends key events (lectures, talks, panels, etc.) in New York involving and/or relating to Pace artists and reports back on such events to the Chief Curator and the Curatorial team, as directedFunctions as a liaison internally with various departments at Pace, including Communications, Events, Exhibitions, and Art ResourcesMaintains up-to-date database of institutional contacts globally and coordinates outreach to institutions, ensuring accuracy, relevancy, and consistency of strategic engagementLiaises with Dealer offices and the Events team on behalf of the Chief Curator to implement Institutional Strategy in regard to building invitation lists for Pace eventsHelp to research and aid in the production and planning of 125 Newbury exhibitions, including compiling first drafts of exhibition announcements, press releases, and wall textsServes as an Editorial Assistant for the 125 Newbury Free PressAssists the Chief Curator with special projects as needed, such as the editing and compilation of Arne Glimcher’s memoir.Supports the Chief Curator on select external projects, such as the Venice BiennaleIn addition to an active and progressive work environment, Pace Gallery offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance, retirement plans with a company match, flexible spending accounts and commuter benefits. Master's degree a plus. 1+ years of experience in a museum, gallery, or similar cultural institution. Impeccable verbal and written communication skills and confidence in public speaking. Superior research and project management skills Knowledge of and interest in modern and contemporary art/artists. Proficiency with MS Office.
