About the program "Hero's Compass"

Hero's Compass is a therapeutic adventure program designed to support veterans on their journey to healing and reintegration. Through a combination of outdoor activities, art therapy and mentoring, this program promotes confidence, emotional resilience and a sense of community. Manager programs will play a key role in ensuring a cohesive and effective experience for every veteran.

Job description: 

The Art Therapist/Psychologist will play a key role in providing psychological support to veterans participating in the Hero's Compass Adventure Therapy Program (HC).This position involves creating a safe and supportive environment that promotes trust and healing through art therapy sessions and ongoing psychological support, the therapist will help veterans understand their experiences, emotions and reconnect with themselves and the environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Art Therapy Sessions

  • Development and delivery of structured art therapy sessions aimed at self-expression, stress relief and emotional healing.

  • Adapting activities to the individual needs and training level of participants, ensuring their involvement and comfort.

Psychological support

  • Providing emotional support and psychological support during the 7-day program.

  • Building trusting relationships with veterans to encourage open communication and participation in group and individual activities.

  • Identifying and addressing urgent mental health issues, bringing in additional resources as needed.

Collaboration and Program Implementation

  • Work closely with Program Manager and Veteran Mentor to coordinate scheduling and align therapeutic activities with overall program goals.

  • Providing guidance on a daily plan so veterans feel supported and included in the process.

Group Dynamics and Teamwork

  • Monitoring group dynamics and intervening as needed to maintain a positive and cohesive atmosphere.

  • Conducting group discussions or debriefings to reflect on lived experience in a structured format.

Preparation for the program

  • Analysis of veteran profiles to understand their individual needs and trainingand to special conditions, if necessary. 

  • Providing guidance to the Program Manager regarding mental health aspects when selecting participants. 

Completion of the program and further support

  • Gathering feedback from veterans about their experience participating in art therapy sessions. 

  • Participating in the preparation of reports and program improvement plans, providing data on the impact of interventions on the mental health of participants. 

Compliance and security

  • Adherence to ethical standards in the work of mental health professionals. 

  • Ensuring the confidentiality of information while maintaining a balance between team interaction and the need to respond to serious issues. 

Qualification requirements:

  • Licensed art therapist or psychologist with experience in trauma-focused therapies. 

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with military veterans or trauma survivors. 

  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to quickly gain trust. 

  • Knowledge of adventure therapy principles or experiential therapy models is a plus. 

  • Willingness to participate in physical activities (eg, hiking, team activities). 

  • Basic English proficiency or higher. 

Learning:

Mandatory participation in the training session in February 2025 to learn about the Hero's Compass program methodologies, team dynamics and program goals.
