Background:The USAID Harvest Activity enables supported male and female grain and oilseed farmers, including marginalized and underserved groups, to return production and income for target commodities to at least pre-war levels while improving production efficiency and profitability and position farmers to market their crops more successfully and profitably in the wartime context.Position Description:The Agriculture Market Analytics Specialist will provide critical market insights and analysis to support the Harvest team in developing and implementing strategies to improve Ukrainian farmers’ access to profitable markets. The Agriculture Market Analytics Specialist will conduct research on local and international grain markets, analyze data to identify trends, and offer actionable insights for project stakeholders. This role requires a flexible, self-motivated professional with expertise in grain and oilseed market analysis and experience in the agriculture or commodities sector.Responsibilities:The Agriculture Market Analytics Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks, among others:Conduct regular market research on local, regional (Mediterranean), and international grain and oilseed markets, with emphasis on Harvest’s target commodities.Analyze quantitative market data and qualitative market insights to identify key trends, price fluctuations, and emerging opportunities for Ukrainian farmers / traders in target export markets.Report on relevant market developments and pending changes in regulatory regimes and oversight by international standard setting bodies that have the potential to impact export markets of Ukrainian grain and oilseed farmers.Support the Harvest team in assessing market linkages between Ukrainian producers and potential buyers, contributing to strategies that enhance trade opportunities.Work with the Harvest team to identify high-potential market segments for SME farmers and support the development of market access strategies.Contribute to the planning and implementation of trade missions and buyer visits, providing market insights to guide partner engagement.Prepare regular reports summarizing market trends, analytical findings, and recommendations for Harvest activities and strategic planning.Assist in the preparation of training materials and presentations for Harvest stakeholders, based on market insights.Provide input into quarterly and annual reports, specifically for data and trends analysis.Provide analytical support for the broader Harvest project, stakeholder groups, partner organizations, USAID, and various entities of the Government of Ukraine.Other duties and tasks as assigned.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, marketing, business, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).Minimum of five years of professional experience in agricultural or commodity market analysis, preferably within the grain and oilseed sectors.Demonstrated experience conducting data analysis and market research; familiarity with tools and techniques for analyzing commodity markets.Strong understanding of agricultural value chains, grain markets, and trade dynamics in Ukraine and international markets.Ability to work independently and communicate complex market trends and data effectively to diverse stakeholders.Strong interpersonal and communications skills, proven ability to build relationships and foster collaboration;Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, to take the initiative, and to meet deadlines;Proven research and analytical skills, ability to process and summarize complex information;Excellent written and spoken English, additional languages are an asset;Experience in achieving specific results in the field of project activities, development and implementation of measures for the development of the agricultural sector or local economic development tools.Well versed in project management professional norms, including mastery of work breakdown structure creation, scheduling, etc. Firm understanding of the market systems development approach. Superior interpersonal, public speaking, and team building skills.Experienced user of MS Office 365 applications. Use Microsoft Teams as needed to carry out tasks and collaborate with other activity staff.Work closely with the CLA and MEL teams to devise appropriate methods for evaluating the USAID Harvest Activity project.Demonstrated success working in a multinational, multilingual team under pressure and tight deadlines.Native speaker of Ukrainian.Supervision and ReportingThe Agriculture Market Analytics Specialist will report directly to the USAID Harvest Deputy Chief of Party-Technical.LocationThe position is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, with limited travel to relevant areas as needed.Level of EffortThis assignment is full time and long-term employment.
